As a researcher, you always require to publish your papers in academic peer-reviewed journals. You should select a journal in your research area and it is better to be indexed in major indexing databases like Scopus, PubMed, Science Citation Index Expanded, Directory of Open Access Journals, Emerging Sources Citation Index, and so forth. Recently, it was found that some journals claim to be included in major databases, while they are not, to attract authors’ submissions. In this article, we will show you how to check if the journal is indexed in Scopus.
What Is Scopus? Why Is It Important?
Scopus is one of the major indexing databases for peer-reviewed literature: scientific journals, books, and conference proceedings. It covers the scientific output in all fields of science, technology, medicine, social sciences, and arts and humanities.
Selecting a journal that is indexed in Scopus is important since many universities and institutions prefer Scopus-indexed journals when they are promoting their affiliated academics.
How to Check If the Journal Is Scopus-Indexed? A Case Study
If you are targeting a journal in poultry science, and you are checking the following three journals:
- British Poultry Science
- International Journal of Poultry Science
- Journal of Animal and Poultry Production
First, visit Scopus sources at this URL: https://www.scopus.com/sources. You will not need to have a subscription or to purchase access to view Scopus indexed journals.
Second, enter the title of your target journal in the search item “Title” then click “Find Sources” as the following example:
Third, check the results:
- No sources found: which means that the journal is not included in Scopus.
- If you find the journal that you are looking for, this means either:
- the journal is indexed or
- the journal was indexed and has been discontinued.
So, you need to go to the final step.
Finally, click the journal title so that you can check the coverage of the journal in Scopus database:
This means that the coverage of the International Journal of Poultry Science has been discontinued since 2018.
This means that the British Poultry Science is indexed in Scopus.
Conclusion
- Go to https://www.scopus.com/sources
- Enter the title of your target journal
- Ensure that the coverage still ongoing in Scopus database
